Wondering how to apply an Ayurvedic lifestyle to your health concern?
Have you ever wondered why some people are naturally thin, others are naturally muscular, and others are naturally heavy. Some people are artistic, some are practical, some are happiest taking care of others. Some people naturally eat sporadically like birds, some have a ravenous appetite...all...the...time, and some can go long hours without feeling hungry.
Why is everyone so different? It's because of our Ayurvedic constitution, and sometimes our imbalances. The basis of our constitution are the doshas....elemental energies of nature that make us who we are. We can be predominantly vata (cold air and space), pitta (hot fire and oily water), or kapha (cold water and earth), or a combination of any of the three doshas.
When we know our constitution and imbalances, we can easily and intuitively determine what we need to feel more balanced in body, mind and emotions, and to be more in tune with nature - both the nature around us and our own nature. We drop the need to follow any particular "diet" because we understand that no one diet is right for everyone. We practice the principle of "opposites balance". For example if we tend to have a light constitution, we need to eat foods with a heavier quality. If we have a heavy constitution, we need to eat foods with a lighter quality. If we are hot in nature, we need to eat cooling foods (not necessarily cold foods). We also consider the temperature of the food and whether our meal is balanced in taste. This is not as complicated as it sounds because thousands of years ago the wise ones revealed this knowledge thoroughly and today everything you need to know is typed up in easy-to-reference lists.
The seasons are also defined by the doshas, and the qualities of each season have an effect on our body and mind. We need to change our food lifestyle and bodily routines each season in order to achieve and maintain balance. In Ayurveda there are three seasons:

- Vata (late fall/early winter), characterized by cold and wind (movement of air) and feeling ungrounded (air/space)
- Kapha (late winter/spring), characterized by cold, wetness and heaviness (think mud) (water/earth)
- Pitta (summer/early fall), characterized heat and intensity of mind and emotions (fire/oily water)
