Root Chakra Issues

The First Chakra (Root Chakra) is concerned with the basic questions of security and survival.  How often have you felt fear and anxiety, or had a sense of not belonging to your family, community or culture, or experienced a spacey, dreamy feeling where you felt not grounded on this earth. Maybe you've experienced a heavy weariness because life felt like a burden.

The Root Chakra also has to do with the concept of elimination, especially of toxins, so when it is unbalanced you can experience elimination problems, problems with the colon, constipation or diarrhea, a weak constitution, or reduced physical and mental resistance.

These are all signs that your Root Chakra needs some attention.  One Kundalini posture you can do to strengthen and remove blockages in the Root Chakra is called Crow Pose.  It will activate and balance the Root Chakra if done regularly for 3 minutes so you'll feel grounded, centered, secure, loyal, stable and have healthy functions of elimination. You'll also have an awareness that life is bountiful and abundant.

If you live in the Halifax, NS area, I'm offering weekly Sunday morning Chakra Therapy classes at the Happy Turtle Yoga Centre, 2742 Robie Street.  This month we're focusing on the Root Chakra.  Classes start at 10:15 a.m. and go until 11:45 a.m.  For further details check out my website www.SandraBriand.com.

Crow Pose for the Root Chakra:
Squat down as far as you can go without hurting your knees.  Knees and feet are wide apart.  Make sure the knees are in line with the angle of the feet.  If you need support in this position, put a cushion under your bum. Heels should be flat on the floor, otherwise have a cushion under your heels.  Clasp the hands with index fingers pointing outwards and engage in long deep breathing down to the belly.  If you know how to do Breath of Fire you could do that instead.  3 minutes.  Rest afterwards for at least one minute, putting your attention on bodily sensations and allowing healing to happen in those areas.

Enjoy!  Let me know if you have any questions.
